Bad Santa (2003)

PLOT

Santa and his little helper are confidence men casing a mall all holiday season and robbing it blind Christmas Eve. The elf “shops” the stores while Santa cracks the mall safe. Following them through one last season of perverse holiday cheer you hear the ‘f’ word more frequently than in Scarface. We meet a woman bartender who has always had a thing for Santas, and a little boy who evokes genuine emotional change in Santa.

Babylon A.D. (2008)

PLOT

A few decades in the future, a mercenary named Toorop (Vin Diesel) accepts a contract from a Russian mobster, Gorsky, who instructs him to bring a young woman only known as Aurora (Mélanie Thierry) to New York. In order to reach his goal, Gorsky gave Toorop a variety of weapons as well as a UN passport that has to be injected under the skin of the neck. Toorop, along with the girl and her guardian nun Sister Rebeka (Michelle Yeoh), travel from the Noelite Convent where they lived across Russia to reach America.

The towns and cities of Russia have been turned into dangerous, over populated slums by war and terrorist activity, forcing Toorop, Aurora, and Rebeka to face dangers of the human element, all the while fleeing from an unknown group of mercenaries claiming to have been sent by Aurora’s supposedly dead father. The stress of humanity’s situation causes Aurora to act out in strange ways that neither Toorop, nor Rebeka can explain. On one such occasion, Aurora seemed, for no reason, to panic and run from a crowded train station, just before it was bombed.

Richard returns home from military service to a small town in the Midlands. He has one thing on his mind: revenge. Payback for the local bullies who did some very bad things to his brother. At first his campaign employs guerrilla tactics, designed to frighten the men and put them ill at ease. But then he steps up his operation, and one by one these local tough guys are picked off by the terrifying angel of vengeance that Richard has become.

The Girl Next Door (2007)

PLOT

Based on the Jack Ketchum’s novel with the same title, which is based on the true story of Sylvia Likens, who was tortured and killed in 1965 in Indiana.

(Warning, the following plot description, due to the content of the movie, is not for the squeamish) The movie starts in contemporary New York City when 50ish stock trader David Moran (William Atherton) sees a homeless man hit by a car. He acts immediately to save the man’s life by giving him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Later, at home, Moran sits studying a drawing obviously made by a child. The incident that day has reminded him of a time in the summer of 1958 when he failed to act to save a life. The rest of the film proceeds as a flashback.

Teenage David Moran(Daniel Manche) is down catching crawfish at the local stream when he runs into the new girl in town, 16 year-old Megan Loughin (Blythe Auffarth). Megan and her little sister, ten year-old Susan (Madeline Taylor), have just moved in with David’s next door neighbor, divorcee Ruth Chandler (Blanche Baker) and her three sons. Meg and Susan (who has been crippled by polio) have recently been orphaned… What happen then?
